The rapid growth of the cellular telecommunication industry has resulted in an increasing number of varoius transmitting installations, particularly GSM base stations, and the related influence on human health has recently become a very hot subject. While the message or data-handling processes and computational capability are necessary aspectsof a wireless communication system, the intenisty and form of transmitted electromagnetic energy is of great interest to biological researchers.

Symposium on Future Wireless Systems

Symposium on Future Wireless Systems will be held aboard the luxury ship "Dalmacija" traveling on the route Split (Croatia) - Venice (Italy) - Ancona (Italy) - Dubrovnik (Croatia) in the frame of the 12th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks - SoftCOM 2004.

The increasing popularity of wireless networks indicates that most of future networking structures will be based on wireless networking technologies. In particular, the main challenges for the next future are related to the development of integrated networks supporting new multimedia services. A deep integration of several heterogeneous networks will play a very important role.

We cordially invite speakers who wish to present original papers on the following subjects, but not limited to these, associated with Wireless Communication:

Symposium on Genomic Signal Processing

The scope of Genomic Signal Processing is to approach genomic and proteomic problems by techniques usually applied by communication engineers for studying information and signals, like digital signal processing, information theory, network modeling, and others.

The scope of this symposium is twofold. First, it will provide an overview of this emerging field, with both semi-tutorial and research presentations. Second, it will be an opportunity to meet researchers working in this area and discuss future research developments. For this purpose, PhD students participation is especially encouraged.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- DNA sequence analysis, processing and interpretation: gene region prediction; study of genome structure, functional motifs, regulatory regions; genome evolution, comparative genomics; single nucleotide polymorphism.

- Microarray image analysis, processing and classification.

- Modeling and behavior of gene regulatory networks.

- Study of protein data, prediction of protein structure and modeling of protein networks.
