After completing secondary schooling in 1970 I earned a B.Sc. and an M.Sc.
degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Zagreb, Faculty
of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.
In 1985, at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval
Architecture in Zagreb, I defended my doctoral dissertation, titled "A
Contribution to Optimizing Material Flow", and was awarded a doctor's
degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering.
In 1975, upon completion of university studies, I was
employed by the Shipyard of Split first in the Planning Department as
a planning specialist, afterwards as a main production engineer in the
Industrial Engineering Department. From 1978 to 1980 I was working at
the Higher nautical School in Split as assistant in mechanical engineering.
I have been with the University of Split, Faculty of
Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture,
from 1991, first as a Scientific Assistant in Dept. of Industrial Engineering,
from 1992 as an Assistant Professor and from 1997 as a Professor. I am
committed as a Head of Industrial Engineering Department and Head of Laboratory
for Simulation and Logistics and head of the graduate school in mechanical
engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
and Naval Architecture.
As a visiting research worker I have been engaged in
research for more than two years at several institutes in Germany: Fraunhofer-Institut
fuer Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung Stuttgart and Fraunhofer-Institut
fuer Produktionsanlagen und Konstruktionstechnik Berlin.
In my scientific work, I have been preoccupied with plant
layout, modeling and simulation, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and
logistics systems, production organization. Within the framework of research
projects "Simultaneous Engineering and SME" and "Development of Innovative
Production Structures" I have been particularly engaged in research new
organization structures. My special concern is directed towards the research
of new organization form of factories with future, such as fractal factory,
virtual factory, etc. My scientific work comprises more than 90 scientific
papers published in various Croatian and foreign journals and symposia
proceedings a s well as four books, Under my guidance, five scientific
projects, including an international one, have been realized for the Ministry
