CURRICULUM VITAE

I was born at Split, Croatia, 1951. High school education. After completing secondary schooling in 1970 I earned a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.

In 1985, at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb, I defended my doctoral dissertation, titled "A Contribution to Optimizing Material Flow", and was awarded a doctor's degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

In 1975, upon completion of university studies, I was employed by the Shipyard of Split first in the Planning Department as a planning specialist, afterwards as a main production engineer in the Industrial Engineering Department. From 1978 to 1980 I was working at the Higher nautical School in Split as assistant in mechanical engineering.

I have been with the University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, from 1991, first as a Scientific Assistant in Dept. of Industrial Engineering, from 1992 as an Assistant Professor and from 1997 as a Professor. I am committed as a Head of Industrial Engineering Department and Head of Laboratory for Simulation and Logistics and head of the graduate school in mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.

As a visiting research worker I have been engaged in research for more than two years at several institutes in Germany: Fraunhofer-Institut fuer Produktionstechnik und Automatisierung Stuttgart and Fraunhofer-Institut fuer Produktionsanlagen und Konstruktionstechnik Berlin.

In my scientific work, I have been preoccupied with plant layout, modeling and simulation, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and logistics systems, production organization. Within the framework of research projects "Simultaneous Engineering and SME" and "Development of Innovative Production Structures" I have been particularly engaged in research new organization structures. My special concern is directed towards the research of new organization form of factories with future, such as fractal factory, virtual factory, etc. My scientific work comprises more than 90 scientific papers published in various Croatian and foreign journals and symposia proceedings a s well as four books, Under my guidance, five scientific projects, including an international one, have been realized for the Ministry of Science and technology of the republic of Croatia.

I am an external collaborator of the Committee for Computer Integrated Manufacturing of the Croatia Academy of Science and Technology and member of several international and Craotia scientific and professional associations (IIE - Institute of Industrial Engineering, SCS - The Society for Computer Simulation, VDI - Verein Deutscher Ingenieure - Gesellschaft Fördertechnik Materialfluss und Logistik, ASIM - Simulation in der Fertigungstechnik, KoREMA, Hrvatska zajednica proizvodnog strojarstva, Hrvatska udruga logističara, Hrvatsko društvo za simulacijsko modeliranje)

My favorite sport is tennis.

I am married an have four children (Ante 24, Ivana 22, Jere 19, Duje 5).
