Gordana Kovačević
president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla

Biography: MSc. Gordana Kovačević, B.E.E., was born in the town of Slatina, Croatia. Mrs. Kovačević graduated from the Faculty of Electric Engineering and Computing at the Zagreb University and earned her Master of Sciences degree at the same faculty.  She also graduated from the Graduate School of Business at the Columbia University (Executive Management Program). Mrs. Kovačević is the Vice President of Ericsson's Market Unit Central Europe. As of January 2005 Mrs. Kovačević is the President of Ericsson Nikola Tesla d.d. in Zagreb. In 2000, she was awarded the title of academician by the renowned Russian International Telecommunication Academy - ITA.
In her professional career so far she has been granted many awards as a successful manager. The Croatian Association of Managers (CROMA) has selected her as the Manager of the Year in 2004 in the category of large companies. In  2005 in the selection of the most successful manager in Croatia organized by the Nacional magazine she was positioned at a high second place.

Algirdas Pakštas
London Metropolitan University, UK


Biography: Prof. Algirdas Pakštas received his M.Sc. in Radiophysics and Electronics in 1980 from the Irkutsk State University,  Ph.D. in Systems Programming in 1987 from the Institute of Control Sciences. Currently he is with the London Metropolitan University, Department of Computing, Communications Technology and Mathematics where he is doing research the area of Communications Software Engineering and is teaching courses “Network Planning and Management” and “Computer Systems and Networks”. He is active in the following IEEE Communications Society Technical Committees: TC on Communications Software and TC on Multimedia Communications. He has published 3 research monographs (2 authored and 1 edited) and more than 140 other publications. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the ACM and the New York Academy of Sciences. He is currently a member of the Editorial Boards of the ‘IEEE Communications Magazine”, “Cybernetics and Systems Analysis”, “Journal of Information and Organizational Sciences” and “CompSIS”.

"UK Knowledge Transfer Experience: Can it be Applied Elsewhere?"

This talk is presenting overview of various opportunities and funding schemes which exist in the UK to support Knowledge Transfer activities. At first the general picture of various funding programs related to Knowledge Transfer is given. It is followed by the brief description of the UK Research Councils Knowledge Transfer Taxonomy. Role of the UK Department of Trade and Industry is explained with special attention to the Small and Middlesize Enterprises (SMEs). Finally, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and way they work are presented.

Antun Carić

Biography: Antun Carić: Received his B.S., M.S., and Ph. from the University of Zagreb. He is an assistent profesor at the university of Zagreb in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Currently he is  director of KATE-KOM – Research and development centre. His fields of interest include research and development, software design, network signaling and control, open systems, and new network services and applications.


"From Application to Service"

ABSTRACT
: This article attempts to cover period from the moment of application purchase till it’s conversion into service. Numerous problems and pitfalls are explained faced by the potential service provider, as well as instructions for avoiding them in order to transform application into profitable service.
Special attention has been given to the experiences drawn from implementing SMS School Notification System in the Education System in Croatia which emphasize the activities for the following: infrastructure, business model, financial aspects, legal issues, marketing, implementation issues and organizational issues.
